Well, a few days ago my cousin bought one of these, a 2015 Honda Odyssey Prestige. This is the one which sold outside North America, and to be honest i wonder if i like it or not..
I mean, from the outside, it looks really fat. Compare that to the previous gen of JDM Odyssey like this:
or this, the even older one:
I always love the old oddy because it's low and sleek design, it looks like a very stylish minivan. But this one is just another tall minivan.
And then there's the "Earth Dream" engine.
The engine is quite nice if you're into those green thingy. It's a 2.4 litre inline-4, making 190hp, and give this car a respectable 33mpg, and releasing a very, very low emisson. But it's paired with CVT, so it's a bit boring to drive. Previous JDM Oddy always comes with manual as an option, but this one isn't.
Technically the transmission is not a CVT at all, it's a CVT paired with 7-Speed Paddle Shift called "Manual Mode". And yes, Honda put a paddle shift in a minivan. Why? I don't know.
But the rest of the car is nice, simply because now honda thinks the Oddy has to move upmarket to battle with the other tall minivan such as Toyota Alphard and Nissan Elgrand, because they stop making the Elsyion, despite i really love that thing.
Just look at those 2nd row seats. It's huge. It's also do recline and do some massage.
And then, the third row. It can be fold flat like the 2nd row picture, or used like this picture. And by far this is the best third row seats i ever been in. The space in here is so vast that you can arrange a grand slam match in here.
And then, here's your own bluetooth headset, 2 of them. and only worked on the middle in default settings. I wonder why i want that on my car...
And the headset by default is stored at the front, lower compartemen with the remote for all the thing inside.
This speedometer is quite interesting.
You may ask "Aya, that's quite nice minivan. How much that thing cost?"
Well, it's 705 Million Indonesian Rupiah, or roughly 57,810 USD, this is roughly the same as the Miata or the Impreza WRX. The GT86 is 4k cheaper than this, and the comparable VW Caravelle cost 82k and the Alphard is waaaay above 60k. For the wagons, the base model E250 Wagon is 800 bucks cheaper, while A6 Wagons is 5 grand more than this. Damn car prices in my country is expensive.
Anyway, what do you think about this Oddy?

Wow, I feel like it would sell decently well in the US if it were priced ~$40k. I like how the previous gen JDM odysseys looked.

That's fancy, I like it! I'm assuming minivans are used for more than hauling messy children around in...Indonesia? Is that right?

Well, in Indonesia there's three type of Minivan.
The very cheap one, under 20k, for hauling messy children like you said.
The middle one, somewhere arround 20-50k, to haul less messy children or for college girls who has many friends.
And the higher one, for hauling artist with family, or some quite rich family that have lot of kids, or old man, like one of these.

My friend is a head manager at a Honda dealer, he says these things in top spec go for around $40k USD, which is a lot. You do get a ton of room though and I can't argue with all that luxury in the second row.

There's no way. The Miata in the US starts at $23,000. The USDM Odyssey starts at almost 30k. This would probably be the same, although at this trim level it might be more like 40 something k.
